BOROTALCO

Italia 1982 , 96'

Meeting with CARLO VERDONE moderated by Pedro Armocida and Barbara Sorrentini
and screening of BOROTALCO (Italy, 1982, 96’) by Carlo Verdone

Along with Enrico Oldoini, we took so many months to get the idea of this film into focus.
Every week, we would throw away a story that had seemed perfect for three days, and a platitude the day after. One day, we said, “Enough. Let’s try and depict the eighties with their colours, the uncertainties of the young, and their slightly mythomaniac dreams but also the somewhat childish enthusiasm of a period marked by great new music that would send signals of flourishing creativity, authored by several intelligent, inspired singers-songwriters.” Talcum Powder captured that period neatly. A goldmine of jokes and insights, the outcome of a fairly naive age which was also filled with poetic ferment among the youth. (Carlo Verdone, Il mattino, April 2, 2022)
