By way of the passions that are still tied to his childhood, a boy, Mercurio, manages to accept the inevitable rules of the human condition. In this way, he can escape the physical and mental alienation induced by the fascist dictatorship and thus obtain complete freedom.
“The story of Mercurio happened for real towards the end of WWII in the Po Valley of Emilia Romagna. Besides the all too often forgotten Nazi-Fascist horror, I was interested in describing the life of a teenager becoming a man during the war.”
