Online meeting with the director
Botanical and film archives weave together in the art of overcoming time, attempting to preserve what will become memory. Plant leaves and film stock deteriorate relentlessly. “I have been working with film archives for more than two decades and that has transformed my vision as a filmmaker. Herbaria was shot in distant cities like Berlin, New York or Buenos Aires, but I was interested in presenting these spaces merged, as a single interconnected organism. Languages and borders are, in my opinion, an increasingly absurd obstacle. My unrelated protagonists share a common goal: to manipulate fragile elements to extend their existence. Working with archive material implies a pleasant challenge for me. Botany and its conservation are also a source of answers. I like to think of films as time capsules.” (Leandro Listorti)
