A medium-length experimental horror film based on a series of paranormal events that took place in the early seventies in Hexham, Northern England, that it also a reflection on the inherent mysteriousness of photographic reproduction. “[Often] tinted by the red safelight of the darkroom, the film (re)constructs a breathless pastoral horror about a place crystallized in time and terrorized by two 6 cm-tall stone heads … through the shivery stillness of Chloë Delanghe’s grainy photographs. … Delanghe and Driesen defy the impossibility of capturing ghosts in the lens by immersing us in a psychogeographical journey through infinite doors, windows and passages.” (Ane Lopez) Not to be missed: the creepy and heartrending song over the end credits, aptly entitled “The Cruel Mother.”
Mattijs Driesen (1994) is a filmmaker and writer based in Brussels. His latest short film The Actricity Machines (2023) had its world premiere at Film Fest Ghent. He is in the process of finishing his Ph.D. at LUCA School of Arts. As a writer, he has published essays for several journals. His feature-length erotic horror film Stupid in The Dark is currently being scripted.
Chloë Delanghe (1991) is a visual artist working predominantly with lens-based media. She is currently guest professor at LUCA School of Arts Ghent. She published her first photobook titled Reasons to Be Cheerful in 2016 and is currently working on a second book titled Famyly. She was awarded the VOCATIO award for Fine Arts in 2021. Her work has been widely exhibited and screened at museums, galleries and festivals including The Grand Chelsea New York, Tokas Hongo Tokyo, and Visions du Réel.
