THE WIND IS TAKING THEM / Der Wind nimmt die mit
Germania 2023, 26’
Rovin lives on a remote farm in the countryside by the Baltic Sea. In his very own rhythm, he is absorbed in exploring his environment. Moss, fire, and discovering new planets, stars, unknown beings such as moss piglets - those tiny multicellular organisms that look like dust bags on legs and are real survival artists. Simply observing the flow of life, through her grainy, earthy images and the calm narrative, while the wind blows through the trees and scatters the tardigrades Renninger also meets other characters who live in the rarefied landscape of the north German marshlands.
Ann Carolin Renninger majored in cultural studies, philosophy and journalism in Leipzig, Strasbourg, and Paris. From 2006 to 2008 she was head of DOK Industry, the co-production/industry platform of DOK Leipzig. Since 2008, she has worked for Zero One Film in Berlin in production and development. In 2010, she founded her own production company, Joon Film, specialising in experimental and artistic films. Renninger has been working with filmmakers and artists such as Alexander Sokurov, Anna Marziano (PFF 2022), and Lucia Margarita Bauer (aka Luci Lux). The Wind is Taking Them is her first solo directing work.
